Welcome
Sacred Heart is a one form entry Roman Catholic Primary School Academy is part of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust within the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. We worship in the parish school of St. Robert's Church in Fenham, Newcastle and have a rich history and tradition which dates back more than 100 years. The present school was built in 1995.
Our school is privileged to belong to the Worldwide Network of Sacred Heart Schools in which we take an active role. This allows us to link directly with other schools, bringing staff and children together across the world. We are committed to enhancing and developing the lives of all of our children and staff in a truly Christian manner and to providing a way of life which will maximise the spiritual, emotional, creative and academic qualities of every child.
Sacred Heart Schools were originally founded by the Society of the Sacred Heart, a religious congregation of women instituted by St Madeleine Sophie Barat in France.
As a network member, we have adopted the Five Goals of Sacred Heart Education.
These are a commitment to educate students to:
- a personal and active faith in God,
- a deep respect for intellectual values,
- a social awareness which impels to action,
- the building of community as a Christian value, and
- personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
Each year we follow one of the five Sacred Heart Goals and this impacts right across the life of our school.
This year we are focusing on COMMUNITY, working to build communities within Christian values.
School improvement priorities over the last few years, as we have navigated the pandemic, have focused on health and wellbeing, whilst ensuring stability in learning. As we emerge from restrictions, we recognise that this approach has been rewarded by the energy and enthusiasm for learning that we see in school. Of course, we continue to be committed to working closely with parents to ensure that all children are happy and thriving in school.
Longer-term school improvement priorities have focused on developing reading, writing and maths to the highest possible standards. We are now confident that teaching and learning in these areas is of a very high standard, enabling us to widen the range of our priorities.
Additional school improvement areas that we have focused on over the last few years have included developing the whole school curriculum, the development of foundation subjects across the school and embedding the Sacred Heart Goals at the heart of what we do.
This year, we are focusing on how children can ‘learn more and remember more’, in addition to continuing to develop foundation subjects and strengthen the Sacred Heart Goals
